Coastal Erosion Protection CRC's engineers and scientists develop innovative solutions for shoreline protection and erosion control. |
Traditional breakwaters or seawalls fail primarily because they reflect or direct wave energy in destructive ways or concentrate it in local hot spots. Erosion problems and the scouring effects of the misdirected energy lead to the loss of beach or coastline. To remedy these limitations, CRC proposes an efficient and durable solution to control coastal erosion: The CRC Barrier Reef.
The CRC Barrier Reef has been designed to absorb the water flow energy (and not to reflect it). Placed in the right place, the CRC Barrier Reef will mitigate the energy from incoming waves through the rocky porous structures.
Moreover, in tropical countries, by transplanting corals on the CRC Barrier Reef, we strongly increase the complexity of the structures, and thus, delaying even more the loss of sand from beaches.
